Protocol for working with Parents or Carers who misuse substances
The Local Safeguarding Children Board have produced the following risk assesment for working with substance misusing parents. This was a recommendation from a recent Serious Case Review and as of 1st. June 2009 it is an expectation that the document is to be used in all relevant cases by all agencies. The initiative will be audited in December 2009.

Chief medical officers guidance - the chief medical officer for England and Wales have produced a guideline on the age at which young people can drink without threatening their health - the headline in the document is that children should have an alcohol-free childhood up to the age of fifteen. Because of the anonymity that the web gives there are many ways of interacting with people with similar problems to our own. Many people find these really useful and supportive although they may not be for everyone. Obviously we are including them on here not because we agree with the views that are expressed (we don't necessarily) but because they help with the isolation that people often feel when substance misuse is affecting their lives.
