Substance Misuse Training
There are significant numbers of organisations who offer substance misuse training. Several local agencies will carry out training locally - in particular TEDS carry out significant amounts of training across the county as do Drugaid. The Adult Services substance misuse team will consider providing workshops in respect of their work with substances misusing adults In addition some out of county training providers do offer some interesting training although standards can vary and staff may wish to research issues of quality for a particular course which may include issues such as size and type of audience, methods of learning, relevance and endorsements.
Nationally:
are just some of the larger substance misuse training organisations.
(The inclusion of specific agency names does not imply recommendation).
You may receive unsolicited information from trainers looking for business - you may wish to discuss their suitability with the training department. In this field, all courses should really be mapped to the Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards - but remember these tend to refer to what the course curriculum covers rather than how well it is covered.
You will need to contact your training department to establish the process needed to participate in these courses In the Case of RCT Children and Community Care Services. The following process applies: if a person identifies an external training course, then they must complete an external training application form which has to be signed by their Team Manager. This is then sent to the Training Section in Heddfan for processing. If this does not happen then training will not pay for the course and the cost goes back to the team. NB an application for external training does not guarantee that the Training Unit will support it.

It is open to agencies who deliver substance misuse training to their staff to include the details here.

There is currently no specific substance misuse and pregnancy training available within RCT although there is a section within Families First Training that deals with it and it is intended that details of a substance misuse and pregnancy workshops will be available soon.
